6일 트위터 상에서는 이 소식을 담은 ‘버스 밖으로 머리 내밀다 사망한 소년’이라는 글이 오르면서 수많은 리트윗을 양산하고 있다.
다니엘 페르난데스(16)라는 소년은 최근 미국 뉴저지에 생일파티 참석하러 가는 길에 이층버스를 탔다. 소년은 버스 밖으로 머리를 내밀고 가다가 육교에 부딪혀 사망했다. 이 소식은 WNBC와 WCBS 등 방송에서 잇따라 보도하기도 했다.
목격자는 “페르난데스가 조지 워싱턴 브릿지 근처의 육교에 머리를 부딪혔는데 16살 동갑내기 친구들과 퀸즈에서 뉴저지로 가는 중이었다”고 말했다. 당시 버스에는 65명이 탑승했는데 페르난데스만 다쳤다.
WABC는 “버스 운전사가 승객들에게 천정의 문을 열지 말라고 수 차례 말했지만 승객들이 문을 열었다”고 보도했다.

WABC reports the driver had told passengers several times not to open any of the roof exits on the top of the bus, but they did it anyway.
“Fernandez was rushed to the medical center where police say he died of severe head trauma.”
An internal investigation with the bus company is currently underway.
